Trust & safety

SecondBook connects buyers and sellers directly, so the same common sense you'd use with any classifieds ad applies here too.

Meet in a safe, public place

For in-person handovers, choose a well-lit, public spot — a café, a mall, or somewhere with people around — rather than an unfamiliar private address.

Inspect before you pay

Check the book matches the listing's photos and condition grade at handover. It's reasonable to ask to look before money changes hands, especially for higher-priced items.

Be cautious with payment ahead of delivery

If a seller asks for full payment before you've seen the book or arranged a trusted delivery method, treat that as a reason to slow down and ask more questions.

Keep communication on the record

Calls and texts through the number you reveal on a listing leave a trail if something goes wrong later — that's safer than moving a conversation somewhere untraceable right away.

Report listings that don't add up

If a listing looks fake, the price is implausibly low, or a seller is being pushy or inappropriate, report it from the listing page. Reports go to our moderation team for review.
