Seller guidelines

A few habits that make your listings more trustworthy and more likely to sell.

Grade condition honestly

Choose Like New, Good, or Fair based on cover wear, page condition, and any previous owner markings — not on how you feel about the book. Buyers who receive a book worse than described are the top source of disputes and bad reviews.

Use clear, well-lit photos

Photograph the front cover, spine, and any damage (torn pages, water stains, writing) in daylight. A listing with honest photos gets more contact reveals than one with a single blurry shot.

Write a title buyers actually search for

Lead with the book's real title and author, not a marketing phrase. Search on SecondBook matches title, author, and ISBN — an accurate title is also how buyers find you.

Mention edition details in the description or note

First printings, special editions, box sets, or a signed copy are worth calling out — use the description for general details and the seller's note for specifics about your exact copy.

Respond quickly once your number is revealed

A buyer only reveals your number when they're ready to talk. Answering calls or messages promptly is the biggest factor in turning a reveal into a sale.

Mark it sold

Once you've agreed a sale, mark the listing as sold from your dashboard so other buyers stop reaching out and it comes down from Browse.
