Buying used school textbooks in Sri Lanka

A full set of school textbooks and revision guides costs a small fortune every year — yet last year's students are done with copies that are often barely used. Buying secondhand can cut the bill by more than half.

Which school books are safe to buy used

Textbooks, past-paper collections, and reference guides are ideal secondhand purchases — the content is what matters, not the newness. The exception is workbooks meant to be written in: check the photos for filled-in answers before buying.

Check the syllabus year, not just the title

Syllabuses change. Before buying, confirm the edition or print year matches the current syllabus for that grade — ask the seller to photograph the copyright page. For exam guides, newer past-paper collections are worth more than older ones.

Buy early, before the school year rush

The best copies get snapped up in the weeks before the new school year. Search early, save the searches for books you can't find yet, and you'll get an alert when someone lists one.

Sell last year's set to fund this year's

Your own outgrown textbooks are exactly what the next year's parents are searching for. Listing them is free, and the money goes straight toward the new set — the same books helping two families in a row.
